Apple Announces Gaming Subscription Service

Apple's New Video Streaming and News Subscription Services Won't Be Cheap

In a demonstration on stage, Apple showed off the service.

Apple CEO Tim Cook and Oprah at today's event in Cupertino, Calif., this morning. "We're thrilled to give viewers a sneak peek of Apple TV+ and can not wait for them to tune in starting this fall". It is expected that the streaming service will compete with Amazon Prime and Netflix.

As part of its efforts to make quick connections, Apple hired two longtime Sony television executives, Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, in 2017.

The app will have an "Up Next" row, curated "What to Watch" lists - and "For You" to show more relevant movies and TV shows.

Following an appearance by Aniston, Witherspoon and co-star Steve Carell, attendees (both in-person and via simulcast) were treated to a two-minute video featuring a glimpse of the tech giant's upcoming original Apple TV+ programming slate, Morning Show included. Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard announced their series about the survivors of an apocalypse that left the human race without sight, See.

Apple is reportedly spending $1 billion a year on shows and movies from the Hollywood heavyweights. Adding to the success of Apple Pay, Cook has revealed that Apple Card will be their newest product. And the service's multi-device support extends to letting iOS gamers suspend an Apple Arcade game on their phone, then resume playing it on another device, or vice versa.

But the biggest reasons to upgrade to News+ is the inclusion of magazines to the collection of articles you can explore.

Apple also announced that the company is bringing this new Apple TV app to various third party devices like Roku and Amazon's Fire gadgets, as well as smart TVs from Samsung and the like.

It will also have articles from some newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times.

The arcade will be available in a new tab in the App store.

It has been created with the help of Goldman Sachs and MasterCard.

Essentially, Apple Arcade is Xbox Games Pass for mobile devices. Abrams and Sara Bareilles announced their series about an aspiring New York City musician, Little Voice (followed by a short performance from the singer/songwriter and actress).

Every purchase needs a fingerprint or face-identification confirmation.

As Apple struggles with saturated markets and sales of its iPhone fall, the company is turning more of its attention to services that provide regular subscription revenue. Apple said it would cost $9.99 a month.

An optional physical card is available, but in typical Apple fashion, it's a laser-etched titanium rectangle.
