Cohen 'Lied About So Many Things,' 'But He Said No Collusion'

Donald Trump says Michael Cohen testified there was no collusion — he did not say that

U.S. President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen was "fully cooperative" during closed-door testimony before a congressional committee investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 U.S election, the panel's chairman said on Thursday. Mr Cohen is facing a prison sentence of three years, in part for previously lying to Congress. Giving Congress a who's who of President Donald Trump's allies and business associates during his testimony, Cohen rattled off more than a dozen names, providing the committee with a potential roadmap for future hearings.

Well, a Democratic aide familiar with committee chairman and Rep. Adam Schiff's (D-Calif.) plans tells us that the answer to this question lies in points three and four of the document Schiff recently released that details questions he hopes to answer with his planned Russian Federation investigation.

During the seven-hour hearing, Cohen also said that Trump lawyers Jay Sekulow and Abbe Lowell falsified his White House-approved statement to Congress about negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow during the 2016 campaign.

On Friday, Trump may have been reacting to Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who said on his show Thursday night: "Turns out just weeks before the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided his offices last summer, Michael Cohen was shopping a book proposal".

While it is not clear what precisely was discussed, Trump's pardon power - and how he has attempted to wield it - has been an area of interest for lawmakers and investigators exploring obstruction of justice allegations involving the president.

Based on who was mentioned in the hearing, possible witnesses could include Weisselberg and two of the president's children, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump.

Cohen said Howard, the executive editor of the Enquirer, was personally involved in coordinating "catch-and-kill" payments to two women who said they had affairs with Trump. They seem to be moving on from collusion to the Trump Organization and so on.

For more than a decade, Cohen was a loyal Trump aide.

Cohen also said Trump directed him to arrange the hush money payment to Daniels.

Some of the most damaging disclosures may relate to Trump's financial information.

"I have lied, but I'm not a liar", Cohen insisted near the end of his opening statement, adding, "I have done bad things, but I am not a bad man".

Weisselberg received limited immunity a year ago related to his grand jury testimony he gave in the Cohen case about the hush money allegations.

President Trump holds a news conference after his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Hanoi, Vietnam on February 28.

Cohen also pleaded guilty to five counts of tax evasion, one count of making false statements to a financial institution, one count of willfully causing an unlawful corporate contribution and one count of making an excessive campaign contribution, all charges arising out of the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 United States presidential election.

He said prosecutors in NY were investigating conversations Trump or his advisers had with him after his office and hotel room were raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation last April. Asked who else knows Trump did this, Cohen said: "Allen Weisselberg, Ron Lieberman and Matthew Calamari".

Cohen then testified that he recalled being in a room with Trump, perhaps in early June 2016, when Trump Jr. entered the room, leaned to his father and said in a low voice, "the meeting is all set". Gerald E. Connolly of Virginia said on CNN Thursday of bringing in Trump's children for public interviews.

In other tweets Friday, Trump suggested Democrats were using Cohen to investigate his business dealings and finances because a two-year investigation into possible coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign "has fallen apart".

"My loyalty to Mr. Trump has cost me everything: my family's happiness, friendships, my law license, my company, my livelihood, my honour, my reputation and soon my freedom", Cohen said.
