Nintendo Labo VR Kit Announced; Launches Next Month

Nintendo Announces Labo VR Kit: Releasing April 12 - News

The kit is the fourth in the Nintendo Labo series of craftable DIY add-ons to the Nintendo Switch, which launched past year.

It's been rumored for years, but now the Switch console is finally getting virtual reality support by way of Nintendo Labo. Rather, the latest addition to its line of Labo cardboard accessories will be a VR kit that you can use to morph your Switch and Joy-Con controllers into a makeshift headset.

The second kit is a starter set, stripped down to include the Goggles and Blaster. Players will have the option to buy the full kit for $79.99, which will include the VR goggles, Blaster, Camera, Bird, Wind Pedal, and Elephant Toy-Con accessories along with a screen holder and safety cap. Expansion Set 2 will include Toy-Con Bird and Toy-Con Pedal.

On that note, you can slowly add the rest of the Toy-Cons to your arsenal, thanks to Nintendo also releasing two expansion kits.

The VR Kit is created to be passed around and shared among a group of people, Nintendo said.

Nintendo Labo: VR Kit offers six new Toy-Con creations to build, including the Toy-Con VR Goggles, which combine with the other creations to allow players to interact with the virtual world through imaginative real-world actions. It offers basic programming tools for you to play around with when making creations. The Nintendo Labo: VR Kit - Starter Set + Blaster and complete Nintendo Labo: VR Kit will be available in stores on 12 April.

The kit of very fancy cardboard (as well as the Labo software) will be available April 12. One includes all Toy-Con creations and the other is a smaller, introductory kit.

Nintendo is also offering a Starter Kit, priced at $39.99 (about £30 / AU$57) that includes just the googles and Blaster design. If it's something that you and the family enjoy, Expansion Sets will be sold separately for $20 each.

Don't, however, plan to start playing Nintendo's existing blockbusters like Super Mario Odyssey or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in VR now.
