Child attack suspect had previous Mall of America arrests

Developing: Person Injured At Mall Of America, Taken To Children’s Hospital

Tina Hailey told the publication she was rounding the corner when she heard a woman screaming, "Oh my god, pray for my son".

Bloomington Police reported that the victim was 5 years old. Aranda's residence was not immediately available.

The suspect is a 24-year-old man, who was not named. His condition is unknown.

"We don't believe that there is a threat to the public at this point as the suspect has been located", he said, adding that the incident appeared to be isolated. The child landed on the first floor on Friday morning.

It has occasionally been the scene of crimes or disruptive protests, and the mall's website touts extensive security training for its officers.

Hailey, who has a 4-year-old grandson, said the screams and the sight of those working to resuscitate the boy likely stay with her for some time.

One witness told CBS Minnesota a woman was screaming that someone threw her child from the third floor balcony.

Police say that there is no apparent connection between the suspect and the victim or the victim's family. Police don't think there is any relationship between the man and the child or the child's family.

The suspect, a 24-year-old man, was arrested on charges of attempted homicide at the mall's transit station and is now in police custody, according to the Bloomington Police Department.

Witnesses said the child was his mum when he was snatched - being either thrown or pushed from the third floor in an apparently random attack. Officers gave first aid but the 5-year-old child suffered "significant injuries" and had been taken to a hospital, Potts said.

Potts said that Aranda was not known to the child or to his family and that investigators are "actively trying to figure out why this occurred". The child was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital.
