Little Boy Thrown From 3rd Floor At Mall Of America

Minneapolis Police on April 12 2019

This undated photo provided by the Bloomington, Minn., Police Department, shows Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, who was arrested in connection with an incident at the Mall of America where a 5-year-old boy plummeted three floors Friday, April 12, 2019, after being pushed or thrown from a balcony.

Landen Hoffmann is the five-year-old boy who was thrown off a third-floor balcony at Minnesota's Mall of America on Friday.

Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts says criminal charges will likely be filed against Aranda by mid-day on Monday.

Witnesses say they heard a woman scream that someone had thrown her son over the railing, which police estimate to be about a 40-foot fall.

'She was screaming "Everyone pray, everyone pray. Oh my God, my baby, someone threw him over the edge, '" Brian Johnson said.

Emmanuel Aranda, 24, was found and arrested in the mall's transit station after running away from the scene.

The suspect has been charged with attempted homicide.

The suspect, a 24-year-old man, was later caught and is now in custody.

Police do not think there is a relationship between Aranda and the child, but the Minneapolis resident has a history with the police, including a July 2015 incident where he threw an object from one of the floors at the same mall.

"The child has been transported to the hospital and has been receiving care".

Onlookers said a woman began shouting after the child was attacked.

In the meantime, please send up a prayer for the little boy.

'This was a senseless act and words can not truly express our profound shock and sadness, ' the Mall of America said in a statement on Friday.

Aranda was banned from the mall for one year.

He's now at the Bloomington Police Department, Potts said, and authorities don't believe there is any further threat to the public.

Potts said Bloomington police had not had any contact with the suspect since 2015, until Friday's incident. As the Bloomington Police Department continues to investigate how and why this isolated incident happened, we will provide our full cooperation'.

Court records show the suspect was charged following two previous run-ins with police and security officers at the megamall.

Aranda also was accused of walking into a mall store and sweeping his hand across a display table, breaking glasses. Jail records don't list an attorney for him.
