Shun lust for power to regain democracy, Rahul tells party

Full text No hatred towards BJP but I resist their idea of India says Rahul Gandhi in letter

After initially castigating state leaders for lack of intent during elections, Rahul Gandhi announced his decision to give up party presidentship more than a month back.

He said that he doesn't want to choose the next President and that the party should form a group of workers who will choose the next leader. The announcement comes in the wake of him accepting responsibility for Congress' loss during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.

In the letter, Gandhi said that every living cell in his body instinctively resists their (the BJP's) idea of India.

The RSS activist alleges in his 2017 lawsuit that within 24 hours of her death, Rahul Gandhi told reporters that "anybody who speaks against the ideology of the BJP, against the ideology of the RSS, is pressured, beaten, attacked, and even killed".

Gandhi's resignation leaves a void at the top of his party and epitomizes the broader disarray of India's opposition, which has no leader who can match Modi in stature and popularity.

When Sachin Tendulkar set social media ablaze with his comment about Dhoni's "lack of intent", he could well have been referring to the Congress, the political party that nominated him to the Rajya Sabha some years ago.

He also called the impartiality of the election into question, saying that "we didn't fight a political party. we fought the entire machinery of the Indian state". "I have empowered them to do so and committed my full support to this process and a smooth transition", Gandhi said in his letter.

In his four-page letter, Gandhi said the Congress Party must radically transform itself in order to help "reclaim and resuscitate our institutions".

"This is his way of bringing new blood to the party and he feels this is the only way in which he can hit the ground running in terms of a political campaign".

"It would be unjust to hold others accountable but ignore my own responsibility", he added. Highlighting the importance of the Gandhi family in the Congress party, DK Shivakumar said, "Without Gandhi family, Congress can't be united, without Congress being united country can't be united". Mr Gandhi will remain as the chief till the CWC take a call on his resignation.

Along with Gandhi, CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury was also summoned. We all are accountable for this defeat. India has never and will never be one voice. Farmers, unemployed youngsters, women, tribals, Dalits and minorities are going to suffer the most.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be kept busy with court appearances in the coming days as he is facing multiple defamation cases across the country.

He said he had no hatred for the BJP, but would continue to fight the party on ideological grounds.
